Date: May 1, 2005.

Mr. Edward M. Green,
The Carlson Corporation
3846 Ripple Street,
Maple Rapids, MI 48853.

Dear Mr. Green,

Nancy Jones of Green & Associates Advertising suggested I contact you regarding the possible public relations opening in your firm.

As an editor/writer for Alexandria's city magazine, I have developed my talent and experience as a public relations writer. Because the staff is very small, I have worn a number of hats, including, developing the editorial format and individual story concepts, writing numerous articles, editing copy, laying out the magazine, and supervising production.

Prior to my current position, I was highly involved in the public relations industry, working for Jones & Jones, where I prepared numerous press releases and media guides, as well as managing several major direct mail campaigns.

My high degree of motivation has been recognized by my previous employers who have quickly promoted me to positions of greater responsibility. I was promoted from assistant editor to editor of Alexandria Monthly after only five months.

I am eager to talk with you about the contribution I could make to your firm. I will call you in a week’s time to see if we can find a mutual time and date to discuss the possibility.

Your consideration is greatly appreciated.

James B. Arreola.

Dear Mr. Smith,

In response to your advertisement in the City Banner newspaper on April 30, 2005, for the job description of Public Relations Director, I am sending my resume for the said position. After reading the job description, I believe that my work experience has made me a potential candidate for the position you are looking for.

I participated as a volunteer for several not-for-profit organizations, and later made the non-profit industry my career where I have been working for the past four years. Currently, I am working for Lake Area United Way. This position has strengthened and enhanced my organizational and communication abilities. As a fund raising consultant, I am in constant contact with the public by serving as a liaison between businesses and local agencies, and by representing other non-profit organizations in various workshops and conventions. My resume highlights other attributes which apply to the position of Public Relations Director.

I am very interested in the position that County Chapter of United Giving is offering. I look forward to meeting with you to discuss this opportunity and my qualifications in more detail. I may be contacted at (219) 555-0010 or (219) 555-0020.
