Salary-Requirement Cover LetterA cover letter is a document sent along with your resume when you want to apply for a job. Salary requirement is generally not mentioned in the cover letter. But if the job advertisement clear says that you have to provide your salary requirement, then you need to mention these details in your cover letter. A Salary requirement cover letters are like any resume cover letter that you send with your resume. The only difference is that they contain salary requirement details.

Why does an employer want to know your salary requirement?

There are two reasons why the employer wants to know your salary requirement. They are as follows:

  • The employer wants to check if your current salary is higher than the salary they are offering. If your salary is very high the employer may reject your application considering that you would not work for a lower salary.

  • The employer wants to know if you are paid less than the salary offered by them. The company might pay you less than they offer other candidates for similar job profile as you are already being paid less.

After considering the reason for including salary requirement in your cover letter, you would like to avoid mentioning these details. But avoiding mentioning any data asked by the employer may lead to rejection of your application. You can avoid providing this detail by mentioning that your salary is negotiable considering the position you will be selected for. This statement will help you to politely not mention the salary details without hurting the employer. Another option is to provide the salary range. Do not mention the exact salary such as I am expecting a salary of $32000. Instead of providing the exact amount, you can mention the rage as follows: The salary I am expecting is $30,000 to $35,000.

Mention the employer's address below the date. It must include details such as name of the recruiter, designation, name of the company, address, city, state and zip code.

  • Third paragraph: You can create another paragraph, if the central paragraph looks lengthy. Mention your salary requirement detail in this paragraph. Whether you are mentioning the salary is negotiable or providing a salary range. You need to mention whether it includes the benefits and supplements.
